Set up with an AI agent
Let an AI coding agent install the PC side, start the server, show the pairing QR code and check the setup, while you install the app and turn on its permissions on the phone.
If you use an AI coding agent that can run commands on your PC, such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor's agent or Gemini CLI, it can do the PC side of the installation for you. The phone side still needs your hands: Android only lets a person install an app and grant it these permissions.
Who does what
| On the PC (the agent) | On the phone (you) |
|---|---|
Download droidline for your system and put it on the PATH | Install droidline-agent.apk from the release page |
Start droidline serve and keep it running | Turn on the permissions on the app's Setup tab |
Run droidline pair and show you the QR code | Scan the QR code, or tap Pair on this Wi-Fi and read out the 6-digit code |
Run droidline doctor and droidline devices to check the result | Keep the app open until the phone shows as connected |
| Install the SDK for your language |
1. Prepare the phone
Do steps 3 and 4 of the installation guide: install the app and turn on every required permission. On Android 13 and later, allow restricted settings first, as the guide shows.
2. Hand the PC side to the agent
Open the agent in any folder and paste this request. Change the language at the end to the one you write in.
Set up Droidline on this PC so I can control my Android phone from code.
Follow the official guide at https://droidline.dev/docs/install/ (a summary for AI tools is at https://droidline.dev/llms.txt). Don't guess commands that aren't in the guide.
1. Download the latest droidline release for this OS and CPU from https://github.com/KnifeLemon/Droidline/releases/latest, unpack it to a folder of your choice and put droidline on the PATH.
2. Start "droidline serve" in a separate terminal or in the background and leave it running.
3. Run "droidline pair" and show me the QR code so I can scan it with the Droidline app. If I give you a 6-digit code instead, run "droidline pair <code>".
4. When I say I've paired, run "droidline devices" and "droidline doctor" and tell me what they report.
5. Install the Droidline SDK for Python.
Ask me before changing firewall or network settings.
The agent stops at step 3 and waits for you. Scan the QR code with the app's Pair tab, or tap Pair on this Wi-Fi and tell the agent the code the phone shows.
3. Check the result
When droidline devices lists your phone as online, the setup is done. Ask the agent to run a first command, such as opening Settings:
Run "droidline launch com.android.settings" and tell me what happened.
If something fails, ask the agent to run droidline doctor and follow Troubleshooting. Windows firewall prompts and network profile changes need you to confirm them.
Chat apps without a terminal
Claude Desktop, ChatGPT and other chat apps reach Droidline only through MCP, and the MCP tools leave pairing out on purpose, so an agent can never pair a new phone or change who controls one. With these apps, install and pair once yourself with the installation guide and the Quick start, then add Droidline as an MCP server. From then on the agent can use the paired phone.
Before you start
An agent with a terminal runs commands on your PC and, once paired, can act on your real phone. Read what it proposes before you approve it, keep your client's approval prompts on, and use a test phone or a phone without banking apps while you try things out.
